We basically introduce clients and our partners together to find the best fit colocation, hosting and cloud computing for our clients needs. The folks that we’ve dealt with on both sides have been great. On occasion though we’ve had partners (whom we’d be sending new clients to) that take a few days to get back to us and sometimes completely drop the ball on our request.
Always trying to find the best things in my fellow man I thought it a function of being overworked in today’s larger company. The folks that I am dealing with I know aren’t lazy. Here are a few cool videos from the guys at 37signals promoting their new book Rework that illustrate what could be happening.
Video #1: – Staying late
I clearly remember folks hanging out at the office until the late evening to impress upper management. Mind you that they weren’t cranking out any work, but aimlessly surfing or playing online games.
Video #2: The Conference Call Meeting
This is by far my favorite. If I am working with folks and they are victims of the following video, then it’s hard to blame them. Their time has been tied up by useless meeting after meeting.
Video #3: The Hallway
This video speaks to the over planning that occurs in companies. I remember filling out countless spreadsheets about future things. I would make up everything based on what I thought we could do revenue wise. The dollar amounts and the clients were completely a guess. This probably made my management feel better but provided the the dollar amounts were close; no one ever went back to check accuracy. Maybe the folks I’m complaining about are filling out spreadsheets and not returning my phone calls.
Thanks to the guys at 37signals for such a great book. I enjoyed it immensely.
